Massaya Cap Est

SOURCE: From a hillside vineyard in the north-eastern tip of the Beqaa (Ras Baalbeck) at an altitude of 1 200 metres, the highest vineyard in the valley. An arid and continental environment, where Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon mountain ranges meet.

GRAPE VARIETIES: Grenache Noir 50%, Mourvèdre 50%. Planted in 2002.

VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand-picked, conveyed in crates, and sorted on tables. They are fully destemmed, then vinified for at least 30 days in temperature controlled oak vats. 22 months in oak vats, Bottled without fining or filtering at 2 years.

TASTE: Aromas of violet, sweet spice, leather and Beqaa garrigue (with hints of marijuana!) pull you in, before a sensual, overwhelming hit of polished, plush berry and cherry fruit fills your mouth. All framed by polished tannins and fine acidity that provide the energy coursing through its veins. Impressive now, but will be extraordinary with <10 years cellaring.
